A car expedition organized by the Indian Navy covering the entire 7,500 km coastline to encourage sea awareness was flagged off from Kolkata on March 26 by the Navy Chief and the Naval Officer in West Bengal. Christened 'Sam No Varunah', the expedition was flagged off from INS Netaji Subhas, Naval Headquarters for West Bengal.
The Coastal Motor Vehicle Maritime Awareness Drive, held in association with the Navy Welfare and Wellness Association (NWWA), covering the entire Indian coast from Calcutta to Lakhpat in Gujarat, was virtually flagged off by the Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral R. Hari Kumar, and on the ground, Commodore Rituraj Sahu, NOIC, West Bengal.
According to an official release, they will arrive at INS Chilka on March 28 to mark the departure of the first batch of Navy's 'Agniveers'.
Conducting awareness campaigns in towns and villages en route to provide information about Navy job opportunities, including the 'Agnipath' programme, the rally is scheduled to culminate in Lakhpat on April 23. The journey will also focus on women in the Navy and interactions with naval veterans and 'veer naris' have been planned en route, the release said.
